The full text of President Obama’s acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC): pretty much the same as every other “big speech” he’s ever made, only much, much less interesting.

That isn’t stopping former Gov. Charlie Crist (R-FL) from campaigning with him. Where some Republican governors reject the opposite party on principle and their own party after being insulted, Crist just jumps to the next one. What a skank.

Stay tuned for a list of spending cuts that will be required if Congress doesn’t reach a deficit reduction deal by the end of the year. How’s that looking? Well, the House is about to vote on a bill that would force Obama to replace those cuts, so . . . not so good.

The Three Amigos – Sens. John McCain (R-AZ), Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Joe Lieberman (I-CT) – conclude their Middle East tour by reminding us that the situation is just bad, in almost every newsworthy nation in the area. Thanks for the update, guys, very insightful indeed. You may now resume watching this repeatedly.

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) will get a few libertarians on his side (for now) by speaking out against federal interference into state medical marijuana laws. Former Gov. Mitt Romney (R-MA) probably won’t do that.

The intro to Sen. Rand Paul’s (R-KY) upcoming book on ridiculous regulations, and it honestly seems like a very good read. Publishers, I’m available to write a review.

The Louisiana Supreme Court and a federal judge disagree over whether or not the longest-serving justice, Bernette Johnson, should be made chief justice due to the fact that the first six years of her stint were appointed, not elected, in a racial discrimination settlement. I doubt the framers of the Louisiana Constitution thought of that. Make her chief justice and then change the rules.

Canada severs all diplomatic ties with Iran, shutting down its embassy in Tehran and Iran’s embassy in Ottawa. And lest any of you *cough* Graham *cough* believe this is all about Israel, I refer you to David Frum’s take on this.

Tunisia begins the process of designing its constitution, which already seems to be going very poorly. For future reference, based on this, the guy we’re supposed to like is President Moncef Marzouki.

The European Union (EU) doesn’t appear convinced that Russia deserves membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO). Neither do I. I really hope the WTO doesn’t devolve into another United Nations (UN) when it comes to non-democracies.
